Ballena Beach

This 1 ½ mile long beach has very nice conditions for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and other water sports. From here you can take a boat to Ballena Island and snorkel at one of the largest coral reef on the Pacific Coast of Central America. On your way there, you can watch dolphins, turtles, and humpback whales.
The next beaches south of Ballena beach are Piñuela and Ventanas. Both of them have very similar conditions to Ballena, with the particularities that Piñuela is very good for kayaking, and Ventanas has rocky windows extending out to the ocean in both ends and a number of nice caves carved into the cliffs. All these beaches are part of the Marine Ballena National Park.

There are a few accommodation facilities in this village. Remember that all along the costal road in the different villages, there is all kind of accommodations to fit the budget, so as beautiful luxury rental homes.

How to get there ?
Ballena beach is the next beach south from Uvita. it is approximately 12 miles south from Dominical, please follow the signs from there. To accesses the beaches you have to pay $7 at the park entrance.
When to go?
Any time of the year. If you want to see humpback whales the beast chances are from December to April, Costa Rica’s dry season.
