Braulio Carrillo National Park

Surrounded by the Poas Volcano and Barva Volcano, and with an extension of 45,899 hectares, this giant lung of nature will astonish you with its natural beauty, high mountains, dense forests and innumerable rivers. Due to the constant high precipitation (about 4,500 mm/177 inches yearly), the park is abundant in waterfalls.

Flora and fauna are tremendously rich. Over 500 species of birds, mammals near extinction such us Tapirs, pumas and jaguars, peccaries, bears, martillas, cabro del monte, the guatusa, the coyote, the pavón and tepezcuinte are still some of the dwellers of this jewel of nature.

A great way to see the rain forest canopy of Baulio Carrillo is gliding through on the Rainforest Aerial Tram, one of Costa Rica's most popular attractions.

How to get there ?
From San Jose take Highway #32 to Guapiles. The first entrance to the park is only 12 miles from San Jose. A second entrance is located 13 miles ahead on the same road, after the Rio Sucio bridge.
The park has three entrances where you can take trails and explore. All three ranger stations within Braulio Carrillo National Park are open from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Several scenic hiking trails wind through the different sectors, and trail guides are available.
When to go?
Since the park is crossed by highway #32, you can go anytime, just keep in mind that due to heavy rain, the road conditions may not be good.
