Cahuita Black Beach

Even though in most of this 3.5 km beach the ocean is rough, there are very small bays where the water is smooth and nice to swim. As usual in all the area, vegetation is lush. Coral reefs are also part of the package. There are lots of small lodges, cabins and hotels, budget adjustable to stay in the area.

- How to get there ?
- In San José take highway #32 to Limón. This highway starts on the north part of San José city at Barrio Amón. It is a 3 hours drive to Port Limón, and from there, it is less than an hour to Cahuita. Follow the signs to Cahuita and Sixaola. Soon after you leave Limon city, you will be driving by the coast enjoying the Caribbean atmosphere. About 35 miles past Limon you will see the sign to Cahuita National Park. This exit takes through the very Jamaican style town of Cahuita where you can find many places to stay and taste the delicious Caribbean dishes.
Also you can go to Cahuita by direct bus service taken at the Caribeños Bus Station in Barrio Amon, San Jose.
- When to go?
- The best time to visit this area are the months of March-April and September-October. Although you can go any time, hurricanes in the Caribbean may affect the whether pretty bad and cause flooding.
