Dominical has been described a beautiful gem still in its original condition. Actually a good conservation program from the local Dominical community protects this area and try to keep it in pristine condition.

The beach is well known for good surfing, sometimes waves reach up to ten feet. The near beaches around such us Matapalo, Baru, Dominicalito and Hermosa have very similar shore and beach conditions.

Due to the international community, Dominical has a good tourist infrastructure organized. However all around the area, there are plenty of small lodges, hotels, cabins, vacation rental homes, etc, that cater to all tastes and budgets.

From San Jose take highway #2 to San Isidro, Perez Zeledon. This is a beautiful ride going up close to the highest elevation in Costa Rica, Chirripo Mount. Down in San Isidro, before you drive into the city turn right at the signs for Dominical and Punta Uva. From here you are about 20 miles to Dominical. Another way to get to Dominical is via Quepos. Follow the signs to Savegre, Baru and Dominical. This is a 20 miles drive and 4WD is recommended.
