Drake Bay is one of the most remote and natural environments at the northern end of the Osa Peninsula. The name, Drake Bay comes from its founder, Sir Francis Drake who discovered the area including the Caño Island in 1579. The biodiversity found in this area include an abundant quantity of marine live around the bay such as whales, dolphins, sharks, all in the same location. Snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming and many other inland activities can be accomplished here.
There are a few nice ecological lodges in the nice setting of Drake Bay, that offer all inclusive packages for the visitor.
Located at the northern end of the Osa Peninsula. You can reach this destination by plane from San Jose or Liberia to Drake Bay. You can drive from San Jose taking highway #2 all the way to Chacarita, Palmar Norte and then taking the exit to Puerto Jimenez. On this road follow the signs to Sierpe. From here you have to take a boat to Drake. The whole journey will take about 8 hours; make sure to arrive at Sierpe before 11 a.m. when the boat leaves.
