Playa Herradura in Costa Tica is a 2.5km long dark gray sand beach with mostly calm waters ideal for swimming. It has loads of vegeation around and is a favorite spot for camping. This is the place they filmed the movie 1492 Conquest of Paradise. There are a number of hotels in the area, including the Marriott Los Suenos.

Take Highway #1 from San Jose heading north until the exit to Atenas. From here a very nice and curve drive will be part of the fun. Pass Atenas and Orotina. Next you will be driving on road #32 along the beautiful warm waters of the Pacific until you see the Herradura exit. If you come from the north of the country, take highway #1 south to Puntarenas. Then take the exit to Caldera and Orotina, road #23. Next take #32 to Herradura Beach.
