The park has an extension of approximately 6000 acres. The summit is at 11,260’ above see level, is is in fact the highest volcano in Costa Rica. There are several craters around the summit. The main crater has a diameter of 3,445 ft. and a depth of 984 ft. At the bottom there is a green crater lake of variable depth. You can get all the way to the edge of this crater and look down inside. To the east is crater Diego de la Haya and to the south is Playa Hermosa, a flat area created by previous eruptions.

On a clear day it is possible to see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Your visit to this "Colossus” will be rewarded with an awesome view from up above. If you love rolling hills and beautiful farmland, you will love this drive. There are many quaint little coffee shops with amazing Valley views along the way. After viewing the volcano, why not stop for a "Cafe con leche" and take in the amazing scenery.
