Montezuma Beach

Montezuma beach in Costa Rica has long been known as a surf village where Rastafarians, hippies and tourists mingle together enjoying the sun, sand and surf. There are several beaches where you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling and surfing. For swimming head for the north end of Montezuma Beach. Surfing is best at Playa Grande. Four km ahead is Cocalito, where a refreshing waterfall cascades over a cliff onto the rocks below before finding it's way into the ocean.

Las Manchas is the next beach, a luxurious white-sand beach with turquoise clear water, great for swimming and snorkeling. On the other hand, rivers and waterfalls running to the ocean create in the way relaxing swimming pools shaded by famous big trees from the area. Such is the case in Montezuma, Cabuya and Cocolito.

These places can be reached by walking the beach several kilometers or hiking the scenic coastline where you can see coatis, monkeys and birds.

How to get there ?
Take the Panquera ferryboat in Puntarenas. There are several schedules every 4 hours starting at 6:30 a.m., until 10:30 p.m. From Paquera drive following the road signs to Tambor, Cóbano and Montezuma.
When to go?
The weather is sunny and hot most of the time year round. However, the best time to visit is in the dry season: December to April.
