Pavones is definitely a surf beach for professionals. The waves have several sections which allow for carving, pumping and even showing off. Contrary to the majority of the other surfing beaches, surf here is best during rainy season (April to October) when waves hit the peaks.
This pristine unexplored beach has an extension of about a mile and surfing is the main reason why may are willing to make this long journey. Very few accommodations and restaurants available here.
This is one of the most remote beaches in Costa Rica. Southwest of San Jose city about 250 miles. Take highway #2 all the way Rio Claro and get off to take #14 to Golfito. From here is about 20 miles following the signs to Zancudo and Pavones. Also flying is possible from San Jose to Coto 47. Take a taxi from here to Pavones.
