Built in l941, the house retains its original structure and design, with its high ceilings, inner archways, chimney and original Portuguese tile floors and bright tropical flowers. Decorated by the original owner, Amalia Jimenez Volio, an artist who grew up in the house, who added a cheerful tropical touch to the house's colonial sobriety, filling its inner courtyards with colorful, modern furniture, typical Costa Rican crafts and paintings of her own.
